Synopsis
Cinderella’s Charade with the Duke
From fake betrothal…to fairytale ending?
Once upon a time, governess Hattie Potts longed for adventure, but accepting a position in Duke of
Wimberley William Sutherland’s household was only the beginning…
For when the scandal surrounding his wife’s death exposes him and his daughter to Society gossip,
William has an unorthodox solution to divert the unwanted attention: a pretend courtship with
Hattie!
She’s transformed into the perfect lady for her dashing employer. Yet, while very real sparks are flying
between them, an accident leaves William with no memory that their engagement is only a
charade…
Review:
I remember reading Harlequin romances as a kid when my mum and gran had finished with their copies. Of course back then all Mills and Boon and Harlequin were fade to black romances with only kisses and no reference to what went on behind doors. It was actually really nice to take a step away from the smut and spice of modern day romances and read a book I wouldn’t be afraid to be caught listening to by a relative.

Cinderella’s Charade with the Duke was sweet romance with truly engaging characters. Hattie was sweet, innocent, likeable and with a standard of morality that you don not often see in modern heroines- even ones that are based in regency novels. She knew her worth and what was socially acceptable and had actual qualms about lying and misleading people. She was kind to the rest of the household staff and genuinely liked her charge.
As for William, despite having his own issues regarding lies and loyalty, he made for a nice lead. His actions towards his daughter were so sweet and he wasn’t too high in the instep to talk to staff like they were actual people.
While I wasn’t too fond of his actions post act-three breakup, he did have reasons for it and went above and beyond to rectify the situation without taking away Hattie’s agency.
Very reminiscent of some of the early romance writers like Nicola Kernick, Sally Wentworth and Deborah Simmons. I really enjoyed the regency romp and look forward to seeing Trudy and Olivia’s stories.
